ArtWalks CLT, Disability Rights & Resources, Metrolina Association for the Blind and Lions Services announce “Art is for Everyone” guided art tour for the E.Y.E. Tribe on Saturday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. in Uptown with poet Annie Burris and artist Elizabeth Palmisano.
We are happy to announce this groundbreaking initiative that promotes inclusivity and accessibility in the world of art. The “Art is for Everyone” guided public art tour provides an engaging and enriching experience for low-to-no-vision and sighted individuals. Funded by an Arts and Science Council Cultural Vision Grant, this project is a collaboration with partners who share a commitment to making art accessible to all. The “Art is for Everyone” guided art tours are designed to foster a deep appreciation for visual art among individuals with varying degrees of vision impairment ensuring they can enjoy the beauty and cultural significance of public art in Charlotte.
Key Features of the “Art is for Everyone” Guided Art Tour:
- Spoken Word Performances. Each tour begins and ends with a spoken word performance by Annie Burns, setting the stage for a multisensory journey into the world of art. These performances aim to create a sense of connection and anticipation among participants.
- Audio Descriptions. At every art stop, participants will hear detailed audio descriptions allowing them to visualize the artwork’s colors, shapes, and content. These descriptions will be provided by a trained audio describer from Disability Rights & Resources.
- Artist Guides. ArtWalks CLT and artist Elizabeth Palmisano will accompany the group. These art guides will facilitate an interactive and informative experience, answering questions and promoting dialogue about the art.
- Interactive Activations. Artist, educator, and muralist Palmisano will lead the group in appropriately-designed interactive art activities connecting to the art.
- Inclusive Routes. The tours will be designed with accessibility in mind, including well-planned routes that accommodate mobility aids and easy navigation for participants with various needs.
- Community Engagement. “Art is for Everyone” is more than just an art tour. It's a platform for social interaction and the sharing of experiences. The project encourages participants to engage in meaningful conversations and build connections with fellow art enthusiasts.
By embracing the power of art and culture, the “Art is for Everyone” youth guided art tour hopes to challenge conventional notions of art appreciation and accessibility. This initiative aligns with a broader goal of fostering an inclusive and diverse arts community where every person, regardless of their visual abilities, can enjoy and experience the world of art.
The “Art is for Everyone” guided art tour for E.Y.E. Tribe is Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. starting at 7th Street Station in Uptown.
